Our Campaign: Finish Your Story

Every life lost to knife crime is a story left unfinished.

At the start of Knife Crime Awareness Week, and on the 19th anniversary of Kiyan’s death, we have launched a new campaign that calls for change – that calls for a coherent public health approach to reduce youth violence.

New research shows that seven in ten young people agree that the national approach to knife crime over the past decade has failed, and that new action is needed.

As part of the campaign, we’ve published five letters from the perspectives of real people affected by knife crime. The first letters are unfinished and have been written from the perspectives of Kiyan Prince, Jonathan McMurray and Keelen Wong, who all lost their lives to young people carrying knives. The letters, written in collaboration with their families, detail unrealised dreams and aspirations.

The second letters are from the perspective of those that have previously carried knives but have received support through KPF. These letters are complete, demonstrating the profound impact that effective community-level intervention can have on young lives.

At the Kiyan Prince Foundation, we are dedicated to empowering young people to write brighter, safer futures for themselves. Through sport, life coaching, and emotional development, we support young people—especially those most at risk—in making the positive choices needed to take control of their own stories.

We’ve already reached over 100,000 young lives, but with your support, we can do even more. Donate today, support our campaign and help a young person finish their story.

The Power of Choice.

A major new report commissioned by the Kiyan Prince Foundation has found that a majority of young people in England worry they will be threatened with a knife (56%) or mugged in their local area (50%).

The Numbers

Delivered to over 5,500 young people in past 12 months

*Data from independent evaluation of Inspiring Future Champions programme 2020-22

82%

young people felt more positive about their futures*

73%

young people felt they had reduced risky behaviour*

90%

young people felt they had made positive changes to their lives*

60%

young people felt more positively about school*

Our Vision

Kiyan Prince was a talented young footballer who played for Queens Park Rangers and was tipped for the very top. In May 2006, at the age of 15, Kiyan stepped in to defend his friend who was being attacked outside his school by another young person. Kiyan was stabbed and died in front of his friends.

Founded by Kiyan’s father and former professional boxing champion, Dr Mark Prince OBE, KPF uses sports and success coaching to focus on self (discovery, discipline and esteem) and to develop a “champions” mindset.

KPF empowers young people to make positive decisions and to become life champions, ready to lead, serve, and fight for the future they deserve.

And as an authentic voice advocating for young people, KPF uses the platform we have to undertake groundbreaking research and to call on policy makers to use their power of choice to best support young people and their futures.

Why This Matters

A major new report commissioned by the Kiyan Prince Foundation has found that a majority of young people in England worry they will be threatened with a knife (56%) or mugged in their local area (50%).

In addition, nearly a third of young people have personally witnessed youth crime and some 39% believe their home town has become less safe in the last two years.

These findings, from a national representative poll of more than 1,000 16-24-year-olds, is one of the headlines in ‘The Power of Choice’, a study which carried out extensive and wide-ranging polling and focus group research. The project aimed to give voice to those people most affected by youth crime; young people themselves.

Data from the Office of National Statistics shows that knife-enabled crime recorded by the police in the year ending September 2023 increased by 5% (48,716 offences) compared with the year ending September 2022 (46,367 offences). Notable increases were seen in the number of robberies involving a knife or sharp instrument (up 19% compared with the previous year).

This is not inevitable and the work undertaken by the Kiyan Prince Foundation and other organisations can and does make a difference.

🏃‍♂️ Huge congratulations to Luke Guymer for taking on his first 24-hour ultra event at Reading Endure24 – and what a debut it was!

This was a weekend packed with firsts:

✅ 40 miles ...completed through muddy woodland trails
✅ Night running by head torch
✅ 24 hours with zero sleep
✅ A team of 3 covering an incredible 120 miles
✅ Tackling the unique challenge of interrupted running in a tag-team format
✅ Enduring torrential rain
✅ And above all, stepping boldly into the unknown

An absolutely fantastic achievement and an inspiring display of resilience, teamwork, and determination – all while raising vital funds for the Kiyan Prince Foundation, and supporting our incredibly important work to empower young people and combat knife crime.

Well done Luke – what an effort 👏👏👏

🚨 Support Luke, Brett & Anish in the Endure 24 Challenge! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

On June 7th–8th, we’re taking on the Endure 24 race in Reading — a 24-hour team relay where we’ll be running an 8km loop as many times as possible. No sleep, just grit, ...determination, and a mission that matters.

We’re not just doing this for the challenge — we’re doing it to support the Kiyan Prince Foundation (KPF), a vital anti-knife crime charity working across the UK. KPF was founded in memory of Kiyan Prince, a talented young footballer whose life was tragically cut short due to knife violence. They work tirelessly to educate and inspire young people to make positive choices and build a better future.

As a lifelong QPR supporter and season ticket holder, I (Luke) am proud to be running this race in my QPR shirt emblazoned with the KPF logo — a symbol of unity, remembrance, and hope for change.

💙 If you can spare even a small donation, you’ll be helping to fund life-changing education and outreach programs for young people across the UK. Every step we run, every lap we complete, will be for something far bigger than ourselves.
